In a category filled with serious actors playing serious roles, she was a breath of fresh air. She owned every scene in My Cousin Vinny. Every line read perfectly, every moment completely inhabiting her character. You couldn't look away from her. And she was FUNNY. It was a win not only for her, but for comedy movies in general. Any actor worth his/her salt will agree that comedy is harder to pull off than drama. Her performance took serious skill and meticulous timing, all while making it look easy. An absolute slam-dunk of a performance, and a well-deserved Oscar win.

The problem is that people don't value comedy; they always think drama should win the Oscars. Acting isn't all about crying, and her performance in that comedy was very good. I think making people laugh is even harder than making them cry.
