If in doubt signal. My biggest bug bear as a driver is people not signalling. I always signal, even if I probably don't need too

This is where I’m stuck. My instructor tells me not to and that I’ll fail my test but no one I’ve told thinks that’s correct and I’m worried I’ll fail if I don’t

I only signal when I know that the people around me need to see it. If its 1 single slow moving car I dont bother because me returning to lane 1 wont

Signal. Particularly if it’s a large vehicle with long stopping distances - may want you further away than the usual 2secs.

Yes you should signal on dual carriageway as you need to confirm if you are moving back into left lane and not continuing to overtake other vehicles

yes so the driver can anticipate you returning back to the lane.

I took some advanced lessons with the IAM. They said not to signal when returning to your lane after overtake.

On a dual carriageway I was taught that the expectation is that you will return to the left lane after the overtake so no need. 🤷♂️

The necessity is circumstantial. It’s better to be situationally aware rather than simply signalling out of habit.

I signal if it is required to notify someone else or impacts them. So passing a slow car, and I’m well ahead no signal. Entering a gap defo signal.

I always signal on 2 lanes. 1 Lane isn't necessary as it's an obvious overtake where I'll be returning to the correct side of the road.

Duel carraigeway or motorway, signal left after overtaking. Normal single road, no left signal. That's what I do, anyway.

I see people signalling as they pass parked cars. This is pointless, as it’s inevitable that you have to pass. Can also be mistaken for a right turn.
