Cristina Irimie was a math teacher at Apalachee High School. Cristina is originally from Transylvania, Romania but she moved to the U.S. with her husband, Dorin Irimie, more than two decades ago. Cristina was a professionally-trained traditional Romanian dancer, she was an active member of the local Romanian Orthodox community. Irimie attended church just 10 miles from Appallache High School at Saint Mary Romanian Orthodox Church. Cristina loved to teach children traditional dance or tutor them in math. She also joined other women in the church kitchen to prepare traditional foods. She really enjoyed helping the children prepare a dance showcase for the twice-yearly Romanian festival. Isaac Sanguma, a student of Imirie, told CBS Mornings that he struggled with math. But that Cristina Imirie was a “real nice” teacher who liked to tell corny jokes. Sanguma added “You could get a question wrong on the board, and she’s not going to make you feel dumb. She will make you feel welcome.” Corneliu Caprar, friend of Cristina and her husband Dorin told CNN that “She decided to bake a cake and bring pizza to her class the day she died so she could celebrate her birthday with her kids.” She was having a late birthday celebration with them. 🥺 Caprar also said “Cristina and her husband were not able to have any biological children of their own, so she decided to turn around and love her students as her own.” 😔 💔 Cristina and her husband Dorin’s friend Corneliu said Dorin Imirie is now “at the lowest point in his life and cannot bring himself to understand why any of this happened to his love.” Rest in Peace, Cristina. ❤️ This church community will hold a memorial service this weekend. No exact date or time has been given. GoFundMe link for to help Cristina’s husband Dorin during this time. https://www.gofundme.com/f/honor-cristina-irimies-legacy-support-her-family
