@apexdogtraining: The 8/10 Rule 📏🎱 Many of us struggle with getting our dogs to listen in new environments. Dogs cannot generalise information and skills as quickly and efficiently as humans. Just because your dog knows a specific behaviour in one context, does not mean they will perform the behaviour once that context has changed. An easy way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to have a clear system you can follow in order to progress your dogs commands. Part of the system I use is determining whether a dog can perform a task 8/10 times with limited to no hesitation on leash. Once they can do this, I take the leash of and repeat the process. If the dog is successful I make those particular commands more difficult by adding variables, and again getting to the 8/10 mark. Once this is done, I move locations/contexts and begin the whole process again. There are many more layers and components to this, however this is a basic system that will improve your training.
