@chasing.sage: New freedom unlocked with @woom bikes! #ad #woompartner It’s been a special few weeks as we’ve helped Torin learn how to ride a pedal bike! #woommagicmoments #woombikes Both Torin and his big sister learned to pedal on the 14” woom 2 but that is where the similarities end. At this same age, Aubrin jumped on and was pedaling on her own in 40 minutes but Torin has a very different temperament and benefited from a slower, staged introduction to pedaling and we wanted to share the steps we took: Start on a 12” woom 1 balance bike to cultivate good balance and interest in the activity from a young age. Graduate to a 14” woom 2 pedal bike with the pedals removed to get a feel for the new sized bike using the same push-cruise method -Install the pedals and practice the pedaling motion while the bike is propped up on a block and then as we supported him while moving. -Master the hand brake. He liked dragging his toe to stop but the seat needs to be higher to make pedaling more efficient which means their toes will barely touch the ground and are no longer a safe means of slowing and braking -Transition to a slight downhill slope to help keep their momentum and urge him to balance and coast with his feet up on the pedals to get used to a more tucked balance position -Make sure his head is up and have him begin pedaling while being supported until he got in a good rhythm at a comfortable speed and then begin to let go until he’s pedaling on his own! Feel free to ask any questions you have in the comments as there was a lot of acute observation and nuance decision making during this process that we’re happy to chat about!
