How we teach our toddler about Jesus Neither of us grew up learning about God as a kid so this is something that’s been really important to us since having our daughter. We want her to have something we never had and our goal has been to help her build that foundation in God early on without it feeling like a religious routine or like it’s being forced on her. Instead we try to lead by example, letting our relationship with Jesus flow out into our home and into everything we do. Allowing her to see how we love each other, how we worship God and how we prioritize Him in our lives. How we handle tough times and go to God in prayer when we don’t have everything figured out. By the way we talk to each other, apologize when we’re wrong, and ask each other for forgiveness. Sharing when we are thankful for something and celebrating when something great has happened. Showing her that in all things, both the good and the bad we trust God because he is faithful and always comes through for our family. When we do more structured reading or learning we try to make it fun for her so she actually wants to participate. Things like reading different Christian books, watching fun Bible-based kids shows, learning Bible verses through singing, dancing and art like coloring bible verse cards together. There are so many fun resources out there that can help bring the word of God to life for our kids and that’s so important because learning about God can be fun and doesn’t have to feel like a burden or something we just check off our list.
