Hem your wide leg pants! For the most modern and flattering silhouette, we really want to see some skin when you wear wide leg pants. This is easy to achieve in summer with sandals, but in winter it’s easy to have too long of hems, especially if you are trying to pair your wide leg pants with combat boots. The hem of your wide leg pants should start about 1 inch above your highest ankle boot, and about 3 inches above your lowest ankle boot. You can have your tailor hem your pants or, if your pants are 95%+ cotton… You can create a raw hem at home with: • Quality fabric scissors (do NOT use any ‘ol scissor) • Ruler (to measure how high you want to cut your pants.) • Pencil (mark 3-10 dots on the pants for your scissors to follow) I have successfully cut off the hem of many pairs of jeans. I intended to create the same raw hem with these famously flattering and comfortable wide leg pants, but these pants are a different beast. After cutting off the bottoms, the pants began to slowly unravel. Rookie mistake on my part. These pants are made from a blend of linen, viscose and elastane, a blend that can not handle an unsupportive hem. No worries, once I realized my mistake, I immediately took them to my tailor to have them properly hemmed. Crisis averted!
