@nostalgicsound_ng: MISTER JOHNSON - a clash of cultures between British imperialists and a black man too smart for his own good. . Directed by iconic Australian filmmaker, Bruce Beresford, Mister Johnson is an adaptation of the famous 1939 novel by Irish author - Joyce Cary . The story revolves around a Nigerian civil servant (Mr Johnson) in the 1920s British Colonial Nigeria. He works as a clerk in the office of the British district administrator and adopts the style of the British colonialists — in the belief that he is a true Englishman while failing to understand that the purpose of British law in Nigeria is to protect the British and subdue Africans like himself. Mr Johnson eventually becomes a v!ct!m of his own ambition. The movie was shot on location in the Plateau Province of Nigeria, using mostly local actors. It was dedicated to the memory of Chief Hubert Ogunde, who helped recruit 150 extras for the road-digging scenes but d1ed in 1990 before the film’s completion. The film portrays the effect of colonialism on an African nation. . . . 📺: Avenue Pictures . . . . . #hollywoodclassic #misterjohnsonmovie ##nostalgicsoundng #1920s #Africahistory #nigeriahistory #tiktoknigeria
