An exhilarating read that I simply couldn’t put down. I take into full consideration that I am an extremely emotional person, but I cannot begin to describe the level of emotion this book made me feel. To me, it was one of the most spectacular reads I have had in a while. Both characters are beautifully written and crafted to perfection. This is a love story for the ages combined with a gruesome, heartbreaking, and real description of what it felt like to be at the front lines of war. Alice Winn, you are a sensational writer. I cannot recommend this book any harder, but if you decide to read it, it will not be a decision you will regret. I hadn’t cried for a book like I did this one in a long while. From Ellwood’s poems and Gaunt’s unshakable desperation for his love to be returned, to the absolute bravery and courage they shared, I can confidently say that this book has solidified itself in my heart.
