She didn’t care that it made me sick, that it prevented either one of us from having a normal life. It was more important to her to have her animals and her junk, to protect her ego, than to keep her daughter healthy. That’s how it is with many hoarding parents. They know they’re sick, they know they need help, but the junk ALWAYS comes first. Who pays the price? The children raised in the mess, who can’t have their friends over, who go to school smelling like the rotting garbage and sewage in their homes.
