@artstudio_post: Sculptor @theartofchrishynes Artist working with metal & clay, and various parts procured from the local junkyards youtube.com/Chris Hynes "Imperial Eagle completed. H33” x W35” x D24”. This one began with an old fuel pump I found in a small junkyard several hours from home. Sometimes you stumble across a trash goldmine in the most unexpected places. I was wearing a starched dress shirt/pants when I discovered the family owned business and pulled over to see if they would allow me to rummage through their garbage. After some strange stares I think they concluded I wasn’t crazy so they allowed me to enter. I found a rusty 5 gallon bucket and filled it with treasure and made my way to the scale in order to finalize the transaction. The husband and wife proprietors glanced at each other and said my total would be $5.00. I insisted that was too low and gave them a twenty instead. It almost turned into a fight, but the husband eventually relented and accepted my payment. The old fuel pump looked like it would make a nice “engine” for a sculpture and based on its overall shape, it reminded me of an old airplane engine. Specifically, the Rolls Royce V-12 Merlin Engine that was used extensively during WW2 in the iconic P-51 Mustang. After about 30 days of work, it’s finally completed. This one required some substantial engineering to ensure wing stability along with weight considerations. Ultimately I took a page from airplane designers and incorporated structural elements such as tube and cross frame supports. Very happy with the way this one turned out." #the_great_sculpture #claysculpting #RecycledMetalArt #sculpture #wildlifeart #sculptureart #sculpturesofinstagram #art #artwork #artist #artlovers #artlife #fineart #contemporaryart #modernart #handmade #creative #artsy #artworld #artcollector #gallery #exhibition #sculpturestudio #creaturesculpture #metalsculpture #surreal #eagle #p51
