Prof. Dr. Ferid Piku, Professor of Islamic sciences and the Director of the Tirana Minber Research Center, argued that understanding and responding to the suffering in Gaza is a fundamental human obligation, not solely a Muslim one. He stated that the ability to feel another's pain signifies being alive, while sharing that pain defines one's humanity. However, rushing to help is what truly defines a Muslim, drawing on the hadith that compares the Muslim community to a single body where one part's pain affects the whole. Reflecting on the similar suffering experienced in the Balkans, he emphasized a historical sensitivity towards Palestine and warned against abandoning its people. He described the current situation as a difficult time for the Muslim Ummah, where most Islamic countries are offering only weak statements, with Turkiye being a notable exception. Prof. Piku insisted that a solution will not come from politics alone but must be sought spiritually through increased prayer, fasting, repentance, and charity. He urged everyone to draw closer to God in their helplessness, believing that Allah sees their sincerity and will provide help. He endorsed the practice of fasting on Thursdays as a way to empathize with the hungry in Gaza and to repent, citing the example of Muslims in South Africa who have done so for 22 years.
