@stonepierpress: Peat is a key ingredient for making an airy, well-draining potting mix that won’t drown your indoor plants. However, it also poses significant environmental concerns: when peat bogs are farmed, burned, or mined for potting soil, they change from carbon sinks to major greenhouse gas emitters. Peat also takes thousands of years to form, making current harvesting processes extremely unsustainable. The solution? Either buy peat-free potting mix or make your own with peat substitutes, like coco coir (a byproduct of coconut husks) and pumice (a lightweight volcanic rock that supports good drainage and air circulation). #PlantParent #SustainableGardening #ClimateFriendly #EcoFriendlyPlanting #TinyVictoryGardens #IndoorPlantCare #EnvironmentallyFriendlyGardening #PlantingTips #EcoConsciousLiving #EcoGardener #ConsciousGardening #GreenThumb #IndoorGardening #GardeningBooks #CarbonEmissions #ReduceCarbonFootprint #ReduceCarbonEmissions #KindToThePlanet #IGPlants #IGDaily
