Here’s the absolute final step in this teapot’s creation. The grinding of the lid and the pouring test. Valve lapping paste, of two grits, gets smeared around the lid of the vessel and the two parts are vigorously twisted together until smooth. Lots of you have asked in my previous videos that show this process, why don’t I do all of this grinding on the wheel? Well, the answer is twofold. First, the paste moves as you grind, so by flipping the teapot upside-down and then the right way up, it sort of keeps the grit in the right place, so it actually does its job. Additionally, my rotation of the two parts is simply twisting it. I actually apply pressure in certain directions as it spins, and manoeuvre them in such a way that I can feel the paste enter the right regions, if that all makes sense? It’s hard to explain but basically, I feel like I have more control doing it this way and end up with a better result, rather than brute forcing it by placing the pot on the wheel and simply spinning the parts together. Once I feel like the lid is spinning smoothly, it’s lifted away, the whole lot washed off, and then the pouring test can go ahead, which this fellow passed, thankfully. #satisfying #qualitycontrol #asmrsounds #pottery #ceramics
