So many people think they've missed out if they're in their 30s but have little to nothing invested, and while it's true money you invest in your 20s is worth twice as much as your 30s, you still have decades of compounding to take advantage of. That's where your money makes free money, and that money makes free money, and it becomes a snowball effect from there. And, if you have a solid income with a high savings rate, it can still be possible for you to retire early in your late 40s or 50s. The metric that is going to determine how early you're able to retire is your savings rate. This is because it takes into account not only how much you're investing, but what you're able to live on. For context, someone investing 50% of their income starting from 0 today could become financially free in as little as 15 years. To figure out how much you need to save, first you need to figure out how much you need to stop working. So I want you to imagine your perfect life, figure out what that costs on a monthly basis then multiply by 12. Once you have this number, you'll then multiply it by 25 - this is how much you need invested to stop working forever. You could reduce this number by also adding in alternative assets like REITs or MICs that provide more than a 4% cash flow. This is what I did in conjunction with dividend ETFs, and it's helped me create 6 figures a year in passive income. I have other investments for capital gains, or growth of my money over time. Let's say you're able to put away $1000 a month starting at 30 into traditional stock market investments, maybe by negotiating a raise at work or starting a side hustle to supplement your income, you could retire by 55 with over $1.2M which would give you about $50,000 in income for the remainder of your life.
