🔞🔞 POV: You wake up as a plague doctor in 1347. History : 📜 1347. The world is crumbling. You wake up in your dimly lit home, putting on your iconic beaked mask, stuffed with herbs like lavender and rosemary. The village outside is shrouded in fog, the smell of death and burning bodies filling the air. As you step into the streets, coughing villagers collapse around you. The Black Death spares no one. 🌿 Why am I holding plants? Plague doctors believed herbs could cleanse the "bad air" (known as miasma) that carried the plague. Lavender, thyme, and other aromatic plants were thought to purify the air and protect them from infection. They burned herbs in homes, made garlic poultices, and crushed medicinal plants into salves. But the truth was far worse—no herb could stop the plague. 🐀 Did the plague come from rats? No. The popular myth that rats caused the Black Death is partly true, but the real culprits were fleas and ticks. These parasites, hitching rides on rats, humans, and even trading goods, spread the bacteria Yersinia pestis through Europe. It entered through ports like the one in this video, where ships carried infected people, goods, and vermin into towns. 🔥 Why burn the bodies? Entire villages resorted to piling the dead into mass graves or burning them in pyres. They believed fire could purify the air and stop the disease’s spread. But the flames were symbolic—the disease had already rooted itself in their homes and clothing. It spread through blood, coughs, and the bites of infected fleas, leaving no escape. 😔 Why did the doctors fail? Even with their masks, staffs, and herbal remedies, plague doctors didn’t understand the true cause of the plague. They risked their lives treating patients, draining buboes (the painful swellings), and offering spiritual guidance when hope was lost. Many doctors died alongside their patients. 💡 The Black Death wasn’t just a plague—it was a global tragedy and a lesson in fear, superstition, and survival. Would you have survived this dark era? 🔥 "POV: You wake up as a plague doctor in 1347." 🦠🌿🔥Comment “🔥” if you would’ve fought the plague like a doctor or “💀” if you’d run. #POV #medievalhistory #plaguedoctor #medievaltiktok #tiktokhistory
