During his years studying political science, he took an active role in the Workers' Party of Turkey and the Federation of Idea Clubs; however, he eventually broke away from the existing leftist orthrodoxy to advocate for the "Continuous Revolution" strategy and the urban guerrilla model, introducing concepts such as "passivized resistance" to Turkish political literature. Following the 1971 military memorandum, he participated in actions such as the kidnapping of Israeli Consul General Ephraim Elrom. After escaping from prison, he took action to stop the execution of Deniz Gezmiş and his comrades, who had been sentenced to death. To this end, he kidnapped two British and one Canadian technician and headed to the village of Kızıldere in Tokat, where he was killed alongside nine of his comrades in a gunfight with security forces on March 30, 1972.
