@nathandavisjrndj: I had a heartfelt talk with my Dad about my brothers passing. 😔💔 My first time seeing my dad cry was at my lil brother’s funeral. I explained to him that when he has difficult situations, and not express his emotions, his sons believe that we too should hide our emotions. My dad had just confided in me about his own experiences with mental health. We look to our fathers to provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional. Children want to make their fathers proud, and an involved father promotes inner growth and strength. Studies have shown that when fathers are affectionate and supportive, it greatly affects a child’s cognitive and social development. It also instills an overall sense of well-being and self confidence. Boys model themselves after their father’s character. As human beings, we grow up by imitating the behavior of those around us; that’s how we learn to function in the world. Children who do not receive emotional support or guidance may struggle with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. They may also struggle with feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can further exacerbate their mental health issues. One way to start healing is by seeking therapy or counseling. A therapist can help you process your feelings and provide you with the tools you need to cope with the emotional impact of an emotionally unavailable father. They can also help you to develop healthy coping mechanisms and strategies for dealing with difficult emotions.
