ENTRY #7 THE FUTURE MAY LOOK DIFFERENT—BUT IT’S STILL OURS Read caption for the whole story. ✨ June 24, 2025 Everything was moving so fast. From diagnosis to decision-making, it felt like I barely had time to breathe. After confirming that the cancer had spread and that a TAHBSO was the only treatment option, I thought the door to motherhood had completely closed. But my OB gave us a glimpse of hope. She said, “You still have options. There are ways to preserve your ability to have a child in the future, even if you won’t be able to carry one yourself.” That moment cracked open a little light in the middle of all the darkness. She referred us to a reproductive endocrinologist to explore fertility preservation. Terms like egg freezing, embryo freezing, and ovarian tissue preservation suddenly became part of our daily vocabulary. We met with the infertility specialist on June 24, just ten days after learning I had cancer. Can you imagine how fast all of this was happening? And still—we were lucky. We had the privilege of time. We had families on both sides showing up for us, and friends supporting us in ways I’ll never forget. After consulting with the fertility doctor, we decided to move forward with embryo freezing. It was the option that made the most sense for us as a couple—something that felt proactive, something we could hold onto. But before we could start, we needed more tests. More blood work. More monitoring. More daily hospital visits. Ham had to do a sperm analysis. I underwent additional hormone testing: Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Estradiol (E2) Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) And of course, another Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVS) At the same time, I had to continue preparing for the major surgery ahead. So I went through another battery of tests—many of them familiar by now, all of them exhausting: CBC Urinalysis HbA1c Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Free T3 and Free T4 Electrocardiogram (ECG) Chest X-ray Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) – to check ovarian reserve Cancer Antigen 125 (CA-125) and Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4) – tumor markers for gynecologic cancers At this point, I was practically a St. Luke’s regular. Every day was a blur of elevators, waiting rooms, blood draws, and paperwork. And through it all—I was still grieving. Grieving what I was losing, while fighting hard to protect what I could still save. The emotional toll was enormous. But this, too, is part of the fight. This wasn’t just about healing my body. It was about holding onto hope for a future we still believe in.
