How's the food in Africa? - Read Below 👇🏽 There is a huge variety of cuisines across Africa. As a visitor on an organized, company facilitated trip, your meals will most likely be entirely provided. In my experience, these meals lean closer towards Western style foods, while still incorporating elements of the local cuisine. One example of this was in Uganda, my dad and I both remarked that the coleslaw was incredible - because of the quality of the produce being used. For authentic food, you don't have to look far. Cuisines are a mixture of the native staples, plus inputs from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In this video you can see food from two of the more popular African cuisines around the world - Ethiopian and Nigerian. Ethiopian food is centered around their staple grain, injera, which produces a squishy sourdough flatbread. Rich flavors and spices are spread amongst beef, chicken, lamb, and fish. The look and feel remind me somewhat of Indian food. Nigerian food starts with their staple grain, fufu, a doughy pound yam or cassava. Fufu is used to mix and grab various dishes like egusi, a soup with a heavy spinach like leaf base. Jollof rice with plantains, beef, and chicken is the most popular dish. Do yourself a favor and go to your nearest restaurant, you won't be disappointed (all the friends I've brought were skeptical at first, and raved as we left). Nigerian or Ethiopian?
