We flew in to Cusco and stayed for 2 days prior to heading to Machu Picchu, that gave us enough time for our bodies to adjust to the high altitude.

Downside of this is you can’t hike Huayna Picchu which is the mountain overlooking MP. 1 hr climb but def worth it.
