Bad solder joints are the biggest issue. Look for ones that are cracked, dull, not attached to or not fully covering the pad and pin.

Look for cracked solder joints (at the pins) with a magnifying glass….they’ll typically be a circular, hairline crack all around the pin in the solder

I’ve saved 3 instrument clusters by simply going over all solders with a hot iron. Takes time but cheaper than the alternative.

I’m always look for bad solder joints in dead electronics, it’s always worth a shot. I got a large magnifying glass for it.

Radio shack was an awesome store. Best place to get resistors and diodes Repaired a lot of boards with radio shack parts. Even built a o2 sensor

I worked in a VW workshop 20 years ago, and we regulatly had to fix 90s instrument cluster boards because of cracked soldering.
