Why MRI sounds like this? 💥 Ever wondered why an MRI machine sounds like a hammer pounding on metal? The noise is so intense that patients need earplugs to avoid damage. It all comes from the MRI’s gradient coils - giant electromagnets that switch on and off thousands of times per second to capture detailed images of your body. Each switch shakes the machine’s structure, creating those loud “thak-thak” sounds you hear inside the scanner. The principle behind MRI dates back to the 1930s when scientists discovered how hydrogen atoms react inside magnetic fields. Since the human body is 70% water, this became the perfect way to map soft tissues like the brain, liver, and kidneys. By 1977, the first human MRI scan was made. What started as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging was later renamed simply MRI to avoid panic over the word “nuclear.” So next time you hear that hammering noise, remember - it’s just the sound of your atoms being turned into a picture. #mri #technology #health #science #education
