and before you even know what happened, you’re reading their face. checking their tone. wondering if you did something. thinking about what you should say. trying to decide whether to give them space or make them feel better. maybe you get extra nice. extra helpful. extra careful. maybe you start shrinking your own mood because being happy around someone who’s upset suddenly feels wrong. and somewhere in all of that, you stopped being with yourself. because their internal state became information your body believed it needed to act on. if they’re okay, you can relax. if they’re not okay, something in you goes on alert. so you monitor. adjust. anticipate. manage. because you’ve learned to experience other people’s emotions as something that could affect your own safety. that’s external anchoring. and when you’ve lived this way for long enough, it can feel completely normal to walk into a room feeling fine and leave five minutes later carrying an emotion that wasn’t even yours. but imagine someone being in a terrible mood and you notice it without absorbing it. you don’t immediately search yourself for what you did wrong. you don’t start performing emotional customer service 😂 you don’t need to fix the room before you’re allowed to enjoy being in it. you can care about someone without becoming responsible for their emotional state. you can ask if they’re okay without making their answer mean something about you. you can let them have a bad day without it becoming an emergency in your body. their mood gets to belong to them. and you get to stay with you. that’s the work we’re doing inside the liberation portal. because once you realize how often you’ve been leaving yourself to monitor everyone else, continuing to live that way starts to feel a lot more expensive. you don’t have to give another day to a pattern you’re already ready to stop living inside. you can start today. #nervoussystem #somatichealing #innerpeace #HealingJourney #externalanchors
