@mim_phx: This exquisite kamancheh—named “Zendegi,” Persian for “life”—is one of only seven examples known today made by Karam Khan. Discover the music of this special instrument in this demonstration by Kayhan Kalhor. Presented by US Bank Video description: Kayhan Kalhor sits playing the kamancheh, which rests on the ground by the spike at the bottom of the instrument. The kamancheh is a four-stringed spike lute that is played with a bow. The body of this instrument is turned from a single piece of mulberry wood, with alternating strips of inlaid camel bone and rosewood to create a striped pattern and geometric border around the body of the instrument. The kamancheh’s tuners and crown have a similar striped pattern. The back of the body has a star shape in the center, and there is an engraving of a bird and flowers at the base of the kamancheh’s neck. #MIMphx #TreasuresAtMIM #KayhanKalhor #Kamancheh #KamanchehPlayer #IranianMusic
