A recent batch of side-plates, from the waxing, to dipping them in glaze, to the reduction fired objects. These will be definitely be included in my next shop restock, which by the looks of things sadly won’t happen until sometime early next year. These aren’t entirely flat, instead they have a very slightly concave surface, which should help the glaze pool in that expanse into a thick layer. I try to scoop extra glaze out of the bucket with the top-side of the plate, then it’s swirled around as it quickly dries. The tong marks won’t remain once fired, and to get rid of them all I do is simply wait for the glaze to dry, then I gently rub over them. The glaze dust that comes off on my fingertips is enough to fill them and make the surface flush and once fired there’s utterly no remnants left of where they were. Yet, this isn’t the case for all glazes, some tong marks can be devilishly hard to remove entirely, even impossible, and in those instances it’s better to figure out a way of glazing that doesn’t require tongs, or, places the dots in areas of the pot where they might be covered by a pooling glaze, or are somewhere generally unseen, such as underneath a handle or on the interior base of the vessel. Either way, this works for me and this specific feldspathic crackle glaze, all they need now is a quick sand around the foot and they’re completely finished. #tableware #oddlysatisfying #asmrsounds #pottery #ceramics #handmade
