Remember: correlation does not equal causation. Just because someone with an impressive physique shows themselves implementing techniques X, Y and Z doesn’t necessarily mean that X, Y and Z are all contributing positively to their results. Example: bodybuilder with a big chest posts a training video showing his 5 favorite pressing and fly variations. The natural inclination is to assume that these all must be great exercises because, well, look how big the guy’s pecs are. Clearly it works. However, it could be that only the first 3 movements are legit high quality exercises and are producing the majority (if not all) of his gains, and the other 2 are just ineffective fluff that aren’t providing any extra benefit. So despite the fact that he’s achieved a desirable result and is obviously doing some things right, that doesn’t mean *everything* he’s doing is right or that you should just blindly copy it. Personal anecdote has its place, but it should always be balanced out with good supporting rationale as well. Otherwise, given the huge amount of bad fitness advice out there these days, you can easily end up wasting a good chunk of time, effort and money on things you don’t even need to be doing or that are flat out counterproductive. Not to mention that just because someone posts something on social media - whether it’s a certain exercise, diet strategy, supplement or whatever else - doesn’t even necessarily mean they actually do that thing in real life. A lot of the time people are just posting stuff for the sake of creating content. At the end of the day, balance is key. Take those “this is what worked for me” pieces of advice into account... Filter it through your own critical thinking... Do further research taking into account other sources... And be willing to experiment to determine what specific approach works best for you as an individual. #Fitness #gym #workout #bodybuilding
