More information below about these unknown alternative to chlorine and saltwater pools 🙌 We will also reply to all comments and questions 🙋 This is most commonly called an aquascape ecosystem pond. This system uses up-flow bog filtration to leverage natural processes to keep bodies of water clean. So what is an up-flow bog filter or wetlands filter? It is essentially an area that has layers of rocks and plants that the water flows through. As it flows up the layers of sediment and rocks, a multitude of healthy bacteria and physical features filter the water which keeps the water clear and safe to swim in. This means the system is low maintenance and has fewer moving parts than a traditional pool. Though on the order of once a year to once every few years, a full drain and rinse cleaning may be needed to keep the system looking and functioning as well as possible because eventually muck and debris can start to build up which can give some types of algae the upper hand. Perhaps the best thing about these, is that they aren’t just for swimming. In fact, some people get these entirely for the plants, animals, or aesthetics, because these systems are all made custom and serve all of the above mentioned purposes extremely well. Since these don’t rely on chemicals in the way other pools do, they rely on ecology and biology to stay clean. Because of that, maintaining them can be more like an art and less like a science. Ecosystems change and sometimes achieving desired conditions takes work and experimentation. This scares some and excites other! Though the field develops further every day and I believe soon Aquascape Ecosystem Ponds will become much more mainstream. Prices on these typically range from 50k and beyond with this specific system probably costing around 225k, or on average roughly the same as a custom pool. Maintenance on these would likely cost between $500 and $1200 a year if done yourself or between $2500 and $5000 a year if done by a hired professional. #Naturalpool #watergarden #Koipond #Recreationpond #aquascape #swimmingpond
