foot on the brake, shift to park, engage parking brake before the car rolls and the parking pawl catches, you'll be fine.

if you do not set the hand brake during your driving test it is an automatic fail. i set it at all times.

depending on the model of the vehicle, those with the electronic brake, will disengage when you move gear from N to P as it had to go over reverse.

if you just apply your foot onto the brake and keep it there while you put it into p then apply handbrake. there is no pressure that applies.
