The Chilling Effect: Now, with all that dust and soot in the atmosphere, less sunlight could reach the Earth. Think of it as a massive, dark curtain blocking out the sun. This caused temperatures to drop dramatically, leading to a sudden return to near ice age conditions. Plants would have struggled to grow, and many water sources would have frozen over. The Megafauna Mass Extinction: During this time, Earth was home to some pretty impressive creatures, often referred to as 'megafauna'.
