Today marks exactly 24 years since the passing of Naa Yakubu Andani II, the late King of Dagbon. He succeeded his grandfather, Naa Yakubu Nantoo, who was the son of Naa Andani Jirlondi. His lineage traces back through many great kings, including Naa Ziblim Bandamda, Naa Zangina, and Naa Andani Jangbariga, all of whom played vital roles in shaping Dagbon’s history. Naa Yakubu Andani II’s father, Naa Andani Zoli Kugli, began his chieftaincy journey at Sagnarigu, where he was enskinned. It was there that he gave birth to Naa Yakubu Andani II. Later, he moved to Karaga, but things did not go as planned, so he was later enskinned as Mion Lana. His journey to kingship was filled with significant travels, including a period in the southern part of Ghana (Anyenam), before he was called back home to take on his responsibilities. Naa Andani Zoli Kugli’s father, Naa Mahanman Kpema, also had a remarkable journey in the Namship. He started at Sung, later moved to Tampion, and then to Mion, before finally ascending to the Dagbon skin after the passing of Naa Abudu Satan Kugli. Sons of Naa Mahanman Kpema Here are some of the known sons of Naa Mahanman Kpema: 1. Tampion Alhassan 2. Naa Andani Zoli Kugli (Father of Naa Yakubu Andani II) 3. Pishiw Lan Abu 4. Current Sang Lana Naa Andani Zoli Kugli’s story is filled with resilience, leadership, and deep traditional significance. He was instrumental in shaping the destiny of Naa Yakubu Andani II, whom he personally took to Tinbun Lan Bukali after his elder brother, Tampion Lan Sule, passed away.
