@pjandthomas: We celebrated our Gotcha Day last week, officially ringing in the two years it’s been since adopting our children. There’s always been an open dialogue about the fact that they’re adopted and how much their bio parents love them and how much we love them and that sometimes, life just works out a certain way. Nothing is off limits to discuss in this house: big feelings, small feelings, and everything in between feelings. When we picked up our oldest from the child watch at the gym the other day, the teacher pointed out to us Allan’s art project that was hanging on the bulletin board. All the kids in the class wrote things they’re thankful for, and Allan wrote that he’s thankful for “my adoption”. We both felt a wave of warmth and gratitude and love wash over us as we thanked the teachers and made our way to the car. As parents and just humans in general, I feel like it’s normal if we question if we’re getting any of this whole raising kids thing right, but little reminders every now and then, like when they’ll casually mention how they love this old house of ours or when they ask us to tuck them in just one more time or when they share their big feelings on little art projects at the gym, it feels like maybe we’re all doing just fine. #adoption #foster #fostertoadopt #fostercare #fosterjourney #husbands #fyp
