Being a wheelchair user isn’t bleak.  It’s a major stereotype in our society that using a mobility aid makes you lazy. The wheelchair is seen as the last resort, the worst case scenario. In reality, it’s quite the opposite. The wheelchair and mobility aids open life back up, give freedom, and personally are my ticket to independence.    I don’t have the ability to choose to be disabled or not, but I do have the ability to choose to unlearn the stereotypes our society teaches about being disabled, to learn about the diverse beauty and strength of the disabled community, to accept my disability, and love my body just the way it is. I’m not saying that accepting your disability and body is easy or happens overnight. It doesn’t. We all have internalized ableism, unlearning that and learning to accept and maybe love yourself the way you are is hard. Disabled people don’t need to be “inspired” not to be disabled. What we need is a society unlearning tropes and stereotypes. What we need is to see ourselves represented. What we need is to show disabled and people with chronic conditions living full beautiful lives and as part of society.  Each of us can be part of creating this change that our world so badly needs. That starts with following all different types of disabled people, knowing that disability is a diversity, including us in everything you do, and giving us a seat at every table.  Video Description: Cienna, a white blonde haired woman rolls runways, models, travels, and lives life in a variety of situations in her wheelchair #BabeWithAMobilityAid #Disability #DisabledAndCute #DisabledModel #ChronicIllness #chronicpain #InvisibleIllness #RareDisease #Dysautonomia #Migraine #PeriodicParalysis #Perseverance #Travel #MentalHealth #TerminalIllness #wheelchair #WheelchairGirl #WheelchairLife #WheelchairUser #LooseWomen #Ableism #Representation #RepresentationMatters #DisabledLife #Community #GirlsSupportingGirls #surfing #AdaptiveSurfing #AdaptiveAthlete #Surfing #Model
