@mrjonfinger: Technological “Off-ramping” is a concept I think will become more and more common. The Amish are an interesting early example of choosing a specific threshold of technology to opt out. There have been hints of more subtle off-ramping like: - Not having a smart phone - Not using social media It feels to me like sometime in the next 15 years we will hit an inflection point of change that seems likely to exit many people’s comfort zones. Large groups of people may start off-ramping and creating communities that opt out of advances they find to be too much. Things like: - Self driving cars - Brain chips - Genetic body mods - De-aging And we are already seeing people draw lines in the sand on how they interact with AI. Off-ramping has become one of the most common AI conversations with friends and family. Despite my excitement and curiosity for advancement I must admit even I have fantasized about moving to a rural place with extra rooms for people to visit to collaborate on mixed reality AI films. A dream of a life away from increasingly automated cities of lights, drones, and genetic body modded telepathic mind gamers communicating and interacting mostly through thought. Then again, the sci-fi nerd in me is enthralled by such a weird and wild new world. Video generated with #pika_labs
