One of the most powerful parts of living in rural Mexico is seeing it through my children’s eyes. Back in the U.S., fear and restrictions are everywhere, but here, Jaycob talks about the freedom he feels—walking to the store, playing outside, exploring without the constant weight of “what if.” 🌿 For him, life here is safer and fuller in ways that can’t be explained by statistics or politics—it’s something you experience in your heart. Of course, like any kid, he’s honest about the things he doesn’t enjoy too. That balance is important, because it shows the reality of life here: it’s not perfect, but it’s real. And that reality is so different from the picture painted by the U.S., where Mexico is often portrayed as dangerous, dirty, or less than.
