THE NIGHT REAGAN UPSTAGED GARTH BROOKS 😂🤠❤️ Today’s update is another one of those moments when Reagan’s recovery started looking a whole lot less like recovery… and a whole lot more like living. We were going to see Garth Brooks. Reagan was excited. I was excited. And we were standing in line outside the arena waiting to get in when I spotted a reporter from FOX4. Over the previous months, I had spoken with FOX4 quite a few times as they covered Reagan’s story, so I recognized her and gave her a wave. She recognized us, came over and said hello, and started asking how we were doing. Just a friendly conversation. Then I could almost see those journalist instincts kick in. 😂 She asked if it would be okay if she grabbed her cameraman and asked us a few questions. Sure. Here’s the funny part… FOX4 wasn’t there to cover Reagan. They were there to cover Garth Brooks. But as the reporter began to craft the story, somehow Garth Brooks became a side note to the real story of a little girl and her father getting back to a normal life. Seriously… How many people do you know who can upstage Garth Brooks? The interview started pretty casually. How are you doing, Reagan? Are you excited to be here? What’s your favorite Garth Brooks song? Reagan told her she was doing pretty good and was super excited about the concert. Then the reporter asked a much bigger question. How have you been able to come so far? Reagan didn’t hesitate. She didn’t give some long inspirational answer. She simply said: “He’s up there.” Pointing towards the heavens.❤️ Three words. That was Reagan’s explanation. After everything she had survived… after everything she had overcome… after all the doctors, nurses, therapists, surgeries, rehabilitation and hard work that had gotten her to that moment… Reagan knew exactly where she believed the ultimate credit belonged. “He’s up there.” Then the reporter turned to me and asked how I was doing. And I did what I apparently do best… I babbled. 😂 But somewhere in my babbling I managed to say something that, looking back today, probably described that night better than anything else I could have said: “You get a sense of normalcy out here. It’s pretty spectacular.” Normalcy. There was a time when I didn’t know whether Reagan would survive. Then we wondered whether she would wake up. Talk. Walk. Go back to school. Have anything resembling the life of a normal teenage girl. And now? We were standing in line waiting to see Garth Brooks. No hospital room. No therapy session. No medical milestone. Just a dad and his daughter going to a concert. Normal. And after everything we had been through… normal really was pretty spectacular. ❤️ FOX4 went to the arena that night expecting to cover Garth Brooks. Somehow, they wound up telling a little more of Reagan’s story instead. Sorry, Garth. 😂🤠 You got ReaganStrong’d. ❤️ #ReaganStrong #FightWithClass #GarthBrooks #ChildrensMercy #TBIRecovery
