True. I just drove my 92 yr old mom across country and when I told her I was trying to stay the speed limit she said just don't go more than 10 over.

Replying to @Ebrady8178 Parentification is a failed caregiving system. And everyone loses. One parent had unmet needs that are the responsibility of themselves and their co-parent. ⬇️ When a parent doesn’t know how to effectively soothe themselves ⬇️ And doesn’t have a partner who is emotionally accessible for co-regulation ⬇️ the parentifying parent with unmet emotional needs then turns to their child, like a pilot asking a passenger for help ⬇️ this is WAY beyond the capacity of the child to provide while remaining in connection with themselves and their needs, so they learn to detach and disconnect from themselves in order to try to provide for this parent 🚫🚫 THIS DOESNT WORK 🚫🚫 The child trying to meet the parentifying parents emotional needs is like Cinderella’s magical glass shoe. It disappears. Bc the needs that the child provides cannot adequately heal the parent. They never had the capacity to do that. It’s like a parent walking into a tire shop trying to find Advil. The pain isn’t the problem, where you are seeking it IS. Stick around, I’m going to try to find a forum to address this in a more in depth format… to be continued! #parentification #parentifiedchild #attachmenttrauma #emotionallyimmatureparents #generationaltrauma
