@therealtiktokdoc: My first 6 years of residency were all penetrating trauma. … Anything one human could do to another….we saw it. … As junior residents we took on the burden of breaking the news to families that their 17 year old so. Didn’t make it. … Of course we stood alongside our superiors, but the harsh fact was we were going to have to get used to doing it. … So they started us out early. I cannot tell you how hard it is to hear families whimper as they drop to their knees feeling like they just had the life punched out of their guts when I would utter those four words. … He/She didn’t make it 😥 … We joke and laugh a lot about medicine, because after dealing with this stuff over and over day in and day out it’s the only way we could get through it. … I knew I could not do this forever and it’s one of the reasons I chose plastic surgery. … I get to be a part of rebuilding patients after cancer. And, yes I do cosmetic surgery too. … But, I chose the side where I knew I wasn’t going to have to tell families often that their loved one didn’t make it. … Shout out to all my fellow healthcare workers that do this every single day. You are seen and I love you for baring that daily burden. … The next time you see your healthcare providers tell them thank you 🙏🏻 … #trauma #medicine #healthcare #loveup #browmsanatomy

My son died in the NICU at 11 days old. The entire room cried with me. I will always remember that. In that moment we all grieved him.
