Masking with movement when colour grading! So, I had some questions asking how to use masks when the footage is moving after my last video, so I’ve put one together for moving shots! Here are some examples of where I have used paths/key frames in premiere pro in order to either follow the subject in the frame if the shot is static and masking by following the movement of the footage! These are the top 3 ones I use the most: 1. To take down the highlights surround a subject if the subject is already exposed correctly. This therefore brings attention to the subject. This section was also in the shadow so it was another reason to bring down the highlights and add more contrast into the footage. 2. I use this one a lot where I can’t always expose for the sky because then the rest of the image will be too dark and it’s very hard to bring up the highlight without it all looking noisy. Therefore I decided to expose for the architecture when filming and using masking, I brought down the highlights in the sky to show the clouds whilst following the movement of the shot. 3. This one is very subtle but it can make all the difference! If the shot is a good exposure level but you want the viewers eye to be focused on the subject or person, I bring up the highlights and details of the subject by masking them individually and following their movement. This is what I’ve done with the final shot of myself walking and trying not to stack it! Again, these are beginner tips and there is a whole world of masking in colour grading out there! but if you want to elevate your colour grading then why not give it a try, the more you do it, the simpler it gets! I’m not great at it but I do feel like it makes a difference in my work. There are incredible colour graders out there who go into the nitty gritty of it all but if you want a simple example then I thought I would make one :) And remember, keep filming 🤟 #uk_shooters @Sony @Sony Alpha @Adobe
