my biggest turning point with my mom was she was to embarrassed to get me checked for autism because she didn't want people knowing it came from her. I used to wear hats all the time because it made me feel safe...she tossed them away and lied for years about it until one day she told me it was embarrassing her kid was wearing them constantly.
