@carla_l_sanders: Being a paraplegic means living with partial paralysis of the lower body, usually due to an injury or disease that affects the brain or spinal cord. Paraplegia can affect a person’s mobility, sensation, bladder and bowel function, sexual function, and quality of life. However, being a paraplegic does not mean giving up on one’s dreams and goals. Many people with paraplegia are able to live independently, work, study, travel, play sports, and enjoy fulfilling relationships. There are adaptive devices such as wheelchairs, braces, or catheters to assist with our daily activities. We also undergo rehabilitation programs that include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological counseling to help cope and adapt to our new life. Being a paraplegic is not easy, but it is not impossible either.
