@outdoorwiseliving: Bucket list hidden gem: SHARE with someone who loves the Golden Gate! If you’re ever near the Precidio in San Francisco, and you’re looking for the most incredible way to experience the Golden Gate Bridge, this trail review is for you: - Trail name: Batteries to Bluff trail (it’s called batteries because of the remnant cannon based US coast defense from the 1890s to 1940s) - Parking: free near Lincoln road or Merchant Rd just off the 101. Leave nothing in your car! Break-ins are common here - Trail length: 2.5 - 3.5 miles depending on how you do the loop. Our reco: from the parking lot head south and stay inland on the coastal trail, then take a right onto the Batteries to Bluff trail and you’ll have the best views of the Golden Gate - Hidden gem: complete the 470 stairs and take the left turn about 1/3 of the way back to the parking lot onto Marshall beach. Make sure to time this at low tide! You can quite literally get as close as you want to the GG bridge by climbing over rocks. Look out for dolphins, grey whales, tide pools, and because of the secluded nature of this spot, the occasional nudist ready for a swim. This quite honestly has to be on your bucket list hikes if you haven’t already done it. It would be great regardless of the weather, but the quintessential time to do this hike is at the intersection of low tide and sunny skies.
