@bdccarpenter: Build muscle by using your mind. I didn’t even want to reply to this one. In the past few months, I have been tagged in numerous videos from Diary of a CEO, where some wild outlandish claims have been thrown around. It’s a great podcast, and Steven is an incredible host, literally one of the best, but several of their health guests have said some questionable things. Like “intermittent fasting boosts your testosterone by 1300%” (lol), or “ice baths strip body fat off you faster than anything on the planet” (also lol). Some of these claims are simply made for catchy social media clips, and the podcasts themselves are very reasonable. This is the clickbait nature of social media; riling you up to grab your attention. But, some of these claims are outright garbage. So, when I was tagged in this latest video saying you can visualise your way to 13% more muscle mass in 2 weeks, you can understand why people are skeptical of the claim, right? Here is why I didn’t want to reply to it. Two types of content are great for social media engagement. 1. A wildly false and outlandish claim that grabs peoples attention, like many of the podcast snippets I have replied to 2. A brutal rebuttal that calls bullshit on the original video, as all the people who knew it was bullshit share it far and wide But, when the truth is somewhere in the middle, you deserve better than that. Do you know what isn’t sexy? A detailed video explaining what the science actually says. It takes far longer for me to compile all of this research together than it does to make a quick video saying “oh my god, this is absolute nonsense!”. Basically, nuance and detail are dying on social media. Which is a shame, because science deals in nuance. So, for the small percentage of you who will watch to the end, I hope this was interesting. 🙂 P.S. my best-selling book, ‘Everything Fat Loss’ is currently on sale at Barnes and Noble, Apple, Kobo, Google, and at Amazon with an extra 10% off in America and an extra 29% off in Canada. Feel free to grab it before the price goes up. #muscle #bodybuilding #GymTok #gym #Fitness #FitTok #workout #musclegrowth #musclebuilding #caloriedeficit #weightlifting #calories #protein #exercise #nutrition #foryou #fyp #fypシ

Well, my running coach said “you get faster on your rest days”, but I think he meant one day off is helpful. Still marathon tapering is more.

I went on vacation for 3 weeks and I did come back stronger, but I think it was due to much needed rest and more food because I did come back +3kg lol

also, a 13% increase in muscle mass over 2 weeks for a weightlifter? that's a ridiculous amount, as in they should be ridiculed for believing it

imagining activates the mirror neurons in the brain, and we rely heavily on that in neuro physical therapy!

A two week break is often what I use when I hit a major wall, so I think I'll throw in visualization next time I need to do it just to see how it is

what's the difference between strength and muscle mass? I mean it must highly correlate, no?

Probably involves some level of muscle flexing too which could be helping

Most strength gains, especially on beginner-level, come from better brain-muscle coordination. Vis definitely can improve this. Mass? Probably not.
