It’s not about the 20% gratuity. It’s about the tipping out the total. Apparently it’s different in terms of tax and everything (I think not 100%)

I thought every bar did that? 20% gratuity if you walk out is normal in Colorado! It makes sense to me.

If they are regulars, have them pay it when they come in next. If not, the establishment eats the money lost. It’s the cost of doing business.

I'm baffled by the tab system. Every bar/club I've been to we pay by the drink. At a restaurant the bill comes at the end but not bars. (I'm Canadian)

at a bar I worked at had that policy and if they had a group of 6 or more there was an automatic 20% gratuity

Where I’m from 🇨🇦 we authorize the card for a few hundred dollars at the beginning of the night if they want to run a tab.

I have to pay tabs if the card don’t go through. I get pointed for clocking in 2 mins after my time. Also get pointed clocking in 1 min before.

The system in America makes no sense. In the uk you order a drink and pay for it then and there. No tabs or giving your card. No money = no drink

How is it illegal to pre authorize their card for $1 and then adjust it to the full amount owed? Gas stations do it.

i used to work at a restaurant that had an 18% gratuity for parties 8 and larger and not only was there a sign, we would always tell the parties about
