Everything Charlie does benefits him in some way. Cold showers, eco lightbulbs, and biking just saves him money. Never swam for his own safety. Only gave his wife gifts to say he had a wife and make his image better, went to church to believe he would go to heaven, didn’t regret dying and bragged about going to see god, and even begged the angel in disbelief when they saw through his lies.

For me the song shows how some ppl think that only good deeds/acts allows one to see heaven. Just going to church and doing good things means nothing if it’s not coming from the heart and soul with belief.
