Just a small clarification for anyone who’s curious, Okinawa was annexed when the Satsuma clan invaded in 1609 and became a prefecture in 1879

Cool. I lived in Okinawa when I was a kid and my brother was born there. I just wish I could have been around longer to learn the language better.

That is so interesting. I listened to your last video and it sounded like that coraline song that’s meant to sound like French but it gibberish

Thank you for mentioning Hawaii, very similar situation. I don’t know a lot of people who can fluently speak the language anymore.

As someone who has lived in (mainland) Japan and now Hawaii, knowing the little history I do about both, I thought "these situations sound similar"

I love how you reference Hawaii because that's exactly what I thought about when you first brought it up in your previous videos and then you said it

I agree. My Okinawan mother has mentioned that she can only comprehend when she listens to the elders. Despite this, I appreciate their unity and willingness to work towards a better future.🌴

Yup, you gotta reach out to the diaspora and the generation 1 - 2 groups back to really hear it. My parents speak it and I know a few but can't speak it myself.
