@underatinroof: Sage Spiced Meatloaf & Brown Mushroom Gravy 😋 Today on the blog I am making a 19th century German-inspired meatloaf. I researched some of my favorite early to late 1800s cookbooks including “The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy” by Hannah Glasse (1804) and “The Boston Cooking School Cookbook” by Fannie Farmer (1896) plus some on between to create this meatloaf. Many historical recipes I could find were for making sausages or German Sausage, which was fried or baked without a casing. This meatloaf is adapted and seasoned with sage, marjoram, homemade bread crumbs, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It’s positively delicious and taste like a little bite of history!
