Never joke about a Kia needing an engine. It could fail spontaneously after starter RR and they’ll blame you for tampering.

I had the same problem on my 2012 Hyundai Elantra I took it to the mechanic and they found a blocker that was connected to the ignition.

before I prob on starters I'd normally turn the key on drop it neutral then try to start it

Actually starter might just be the issue, had the same problem In my Jetta, replaced it and it’s good as new
