I know abuela is Pech I’d go to her house she had a clay house walked barefoot to the creek and we’d take water back to the house in clay jars. Cooked on clay stove and comal But she spoke Spanish.

This right here, I grew up in Mexico, around lots of different indigenous groups, my neighbor which was basically like family to us, was full blooded native (idk what group, he never specified but he spoke their dialect along with his wife) their children(our childhood best friends) are also native, MOST if not all people I grew up with in Mexico are native. There’s many many different indigenous groups all through the world, being Native American doesn’t just apply to ppl in the US, it applies to ANY NATIVE IN THE AMERICAS😭

iono. this topic is iffy because I've heard from Natives in the U.S. who don't feel it's appropriate for Mexicans to identify as such. I know Mexico doesn't recognize tribes the way the U.S. does and of course this creates an issue for those of us who wish to reconnect with our indigenous roots. Also, pero 23andme I'm only 54% Indigenous which makes me feel wrong to identify as Indigenous when I'm mestiza. sigh* the struggle of a Mexican 🫤

this. the way someone was shocked before when I told someone because of something said you do realize they're native and the person was shocked that I would say something like no she's next again I'm like yeah I know he's native babe it's not a one or the other things he's a native from Mexico LOL he's a lot of people who don't really even think about it
