I always thought the whole point of bar codes was to keep track of inventory, which would tell the reader if it was sold or not.

me my brother would find Receipts outside the store and go in grab the stuff on the Receipt and return it. we started at trader Joe's. so we called it trading joe.

my dad use to do this for quick cash he'd pick up receipts off the trash or parking lot and then go in grab the exact items and return them

I used to work for Target, in the customer service department. You can't get cash for a return w/out a receipt nor a registry. Only merchandise credit
